Question
Dr. Katz, over the past 3 years I have had 3 foot surgeries (repairing torn ligaments, taking off a bone spur, have two bones in the heel fused, and recently having the screw taken out). I am still a teenager and am wondering what could be wrong with my ankle. After having the screw out, my foot is back to 80% constant pain and I am still young. The pain goes underneath the ankle bone till about the middle of my foot on the outside of the right ankle. I don't know what else the problem could be and am I too young to consider a ankle replacement. I know that those are done now but am  not sure I it is a good idea to help the pain. Thank You
Leanna

Answer
Hi Leanna,

It sounds like you must have some serious foot and ankle problems based on the surgeries you've had to date.  I would hope that your surgeon has answered the questions that you've asked me before you had the surgeries.  I would need to do an exam and see x-rays and MRI scans before I could tell you what is wrong.  If you have not gotten the answers to your questions, you could seek several other opinions.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz, DPM
