Spinal cord bruise

Question
my father made two disk surgeries in one week the first surgery he made was done with a probe I mean non-traumatic surgery the surgery was almost successful but after few days of the initial surgery the remaining disk material slipped to the spinal cord and it was between L3 L4. my dad started vomiting that day and we didn t know what was wrong with him but after we made the MRI we found out about the slipt disk and the doctors recommended an emergency immediate traditional disk surgery to remove the slipped disk,, ``operation was successful`` The doctors said and the nerves and spinal cord are not hurt neither injured and normal but the spinal cord was slightly bruised due to the slipped disk, my father is improving slightly now and motor and sensory functions are getting better day after day it has been one month now after the surgery and he could move his legs on the bed right and left,, the neuro-surgeon gave us a period of nearly six month to see improvement,, my question here is if it is only a bruise from the disk material,, I mean there is no accidents no gunshots and no broken backbones just a slipped disk is there a chance that my father will have a complete recovery and returns to his normal life????

and what is the best nourishment or drugs which I could give him right now to help him recover faster??

Answer
Dear Jo,

Based on what you've told me I'd say your father has a good chance of a full recovery. But when it comes to the spinal cord you just never know. Time will tell. I wish I could say for sure, but I'm not a doctor.

To promote faster bruise healing you should eat more peppers, citrus fruits or any other food that are rich in vitamin C.

I will keep good thoughts for your fathers speedy and full recovery.

Sincerely, Ken
