Question
Hi.  I have finally after 4 years been diagnosed with crps following a carpol tunnel release surgery.  Dr.s have just been treating me for pain as I called in.  I only go to the VA Hospitals because I do not have medical insurance.  I have been on numerous meds and had trigger point injections.  Also OT and PT.  I'm at a point currently on 2400mg of Neurontin daily for pain and 2400 Ibuprofen.  There has never been any follow-up on any of my dr. visits.  Never see the same Dr. twice.  Next, I'm waiting for some kind of nerve block injections?  (if they don't forget).  Should I be seeing a specialist in crps.  Seems like no one really knows what it is.  Any advice on what I should be asking and maybe on how to releive the constant burning pain??  Thanks.  denise

Answer
Hi Denise and thanks for writing,

I'm not too familiar with CRPS either but from what I read "because there is no cure for CRPS, treatment is aimed at relieving painful symptoms.  Doctors may prescribe topical analgesics, antidepressants, corticosteroids, and opioids to relieve pain.  However, no single drug or combination of drugs has produced consistent long-lasting improvement in symptoms.  Other treatments may include physical therapy, sympathetic nerve block, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal drug pumps to deliver opioids and local anesthetic agents via the spinal cord."

I hope this helps a little, sorry I couldn't be more help to you,

Margot
