tingling and ear ringing after chiropractic visit

Question
I suffered with a tight muscle in between my shoulder blade and spine for the last 2 weeks, which caused a headache as well.

I went to see my regular chiropractor yeterday, and since my adjustment, I have had ringing in my ears and tingling in my hands.

I know that before I have felt somewhat sore after a visit.  My next musle is much, much better.  Should I be concerned about the ringing?  Will it subside?

Answer
Theresa,

While adverse reactions following a chiropractic adjustment/manipulation are relatively uncommon, they sometimes do occur. In most cases, adverse  reactions (such as increased localized soreness or pain) are self-limiting.

Ringing in the ears (called tinnitus) and tingling in the hands following a chiropractic adjustment/manipulation is not a normal response, and you should notify your chiropractor about these symptoms immediately. Your chiropractor is in the best position to evaluate your condition and determine if further adjustments/manipulations should be discontinued. Chiropractors may use joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, or physiotherapeutic modalities in lieu of manipulation.

If your symptoms worsen or progress, you should see your medical physician for further evaluation and to rule out an underlying medical problem.
