balms for muscle and joint pain

Question
i have many aches and pains mostly in my lumbar

area but also hip. as i have a complicated back

problem. my friend is taking these analgesic liniments

and or balms and i did try one. it almost felt

that it was just masking the pain.

i am thinking they may be of no real use

and are just giving u a new pain to disctract

u from the real pain and may

actually be dangerous as still the said muscle

joint should not be moved but as you are not in

pain you put that said joint thru a movement to

which it should not be moved.

but maybe actually these formulas actually

do different things to the body.

i am very interested to know of any formulas

that could actually not just be acting on the

skin but go much deeper to the heart of the problem.

could u please explain briefly how these work

in pain relief? and if there are certain ones

you could recommend and why and just what mechanism

they are doing in the body?

thanking you in advance

Answer
Dear Chatchai,

If the ointment you are using does not help with the pain, then the root may not be a superficial pain.  There could be tissues deeper inside the body causing the pain.  The ointment only help to reduce any swelling or muscle spasm.

If the pain persists, I would recommend to seek a consultation with either a chiropractor or acupuncturist to properly give a diagnose.

It would be difficult for me to recommend any type of therapy or herbs without knowing the exact cause.
