Question
Hello.  The other day, I found a hard lump in my lower back (right side, sacral area, where my spine enters my pelvis).  It is the size of a quarter and it is hard.  It does not hurt.  It feels like a bone, but I cannot feel anything similar on my left side.

I am going to the doctor next week, but I would like to know what this may be.  I am pretty worried.

Answer
Hello Carrie,

The sacroiliac joint is a common place for lipomas (basically a fatty tumor...harmless) especially if the joint has been injured or if you have given child birth.  Good idea to have a exam, that is the only way you can tell exactly what it is.

Have a great day,
Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
