Question
Hi, my name is Yemi. What does it mean to have a dislocated Disc? Actually I have two, would I ever be able to go back to my normal routine of going to the gym and trying to keep up with my three toddlers ever again.

Answer
Dear Yemi,

Technically there is no such thing as a dislocated or slipped disk. The terminology utilized is probably meant to say disk bulge or disk herniation.  The magnitude and resolution of this problem can only be determined by clinical examination and your MRI results.  Moreover, the location of the disk problem will also help determine an effective treatment protocol.  This is most common in the low back, but also happens in the neck and mid back.

Concerning treatment options, there are many depending on the severity of the problem:  chiropractic care, physical therapy, disk decompression, interventional pain management (injection techniques), and surgical options.  Although disk problems can be very painful, they can often be treated conservatively, and even when surgery is warranted, there can be resolution.
