Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My father had a fall 4 months ago and has had an MRI today which showed a central disc bulge at C3/4.  The bulge estends 13mm above and below the c3/4 disc. Both his hands feel numb and he drops things, has no pain though.  Is this disc problem at C3-4 causing this because from what I read on the internet C678 supplies his hands?  He has got widespread disc degeneration at C567. His local knife happy orthopaedic surgeon wants to cut the c3/4 disc within 1 week.  Says he has never seen a bulge that big and is surprised he doesn't have leg weakness.(which he doesn't)  Says don't do anything and book in for surgery.  Is he scare mungering?
Thanks Robert

ANSWER: Andrew,
Do not rush him into surgery, this is something that can always be done at a later time if more conservative efforts do not help him enough.  We see this sort of case quite often and have very favorable results, with actually every single one not needing surgery after being under our specific care.
In regards to your orthopedic surgeon, this is all that they know and this is what they get paid to do.  If you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
You just need to go to a doctor that is paid to get you well and get the results that you are looking for, if you go to a doctor that is paid to mask symptoms with harmful drugs and never get you well, then this is what you will get.
There is a reason that he having instability and disc problems in his cervical spine.  The only way for him to get well is to have the cause of his problem corrected.  Merely treating the effects with surgery is certainly not the only thing that can be done, and it also is the most drastic approach that does not even solve the problem anyway.
Let me know his geographical location and I will refer him to a Specific Doctor that can help him too.

Answer
Andrew,
I have a few good doctors for you in Australia.  Hopefully at least one of these will work for you in travel as there are not many there to choose from.  Reply back to me if you need further assistance from me, or you may want to contact these doctors for a possible referral to "the best upper cervical doctor" that they know of in your area.  A good tip for you is to go to a doctor that practices Upper Cervical Only and does not mix techniques or do many different things.
