Question
I received a MRI result and it say that the C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 level has subtle broad osteophyte and disc complex partially effacing the anterior CSF space.   What does this mean?

Answer
It means you have some arthritis in your neck along with degenerative disc disease. In simple terms, the joints in your neck have become roughened and the edges in the vertebrae have started to jut outwards. These are the cumulative effects of osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease. The discs in between the vertebrae act as shock absorbers and cushion they spine. Your discs have lost some of the fluid content and do not provide as much cushioning as they used to. All of these changes have created less space for the nerve and spinal cord. These changes are very common, but you should remember that they cannot be reversed. Your goals should be to prevent any further degeneration and learning how to manage any symptoms. I would suggest you see a chiropractor or physical therapist who can show you how to do specific exercises and stretches.
