Question
I may have already asked this question to you in another section here, if so I apologize, but I definitely like your way of thinking about illness and pain. Please read my correspondence below with another expert on here, now I am very optimistic that the upper cervical procedure can help me immensely. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Subject   10 day headache
Question   QUESTION: I was recently diagnosed with a colloid cyst in my 3rd ventricle, 4x4mm. Neurosurgeon says its not large enough to be causing a problem and isn't the cause of my symptoms. Neurologist says its migraines and prescribed migraine preventative.

History is a little over 3 weeks ago, March 13, I started having spells of being dizzy instantly and long lasting, these were accompanied by numbness in the back of my head and neck, diarrhea, severe stomach pains, shortness of breath, and POUNDING heart. I had to go to ER 3 times in 2 weeks they were so bad. The 2nd visit is when they found the cyst. The 3rd visit is when the Neurosurgeon brought in the neurologist who said severe migraines and prescribed the preventative nadolol. By that point I was willing to try anything, but had yet to have a headache throughout all of these trips to ER. I filled the prescription that night and took a nadolol. That was March 26th. I woke up march 27th with a horrible headache and my neck and shoulders were very tight, the headache feels like a giant thick rubber band wrapped around my forehead and the lower part of the back of my head, neck and shoulders feel tighter than they ever have even after a day or so of HARD labor. I still have this headache on April 5. I quit taking the nadolol after 5 days and several nights of hearing/feeling my heart beat in my ears all night and not being able to sleep, I have since not taken any preventatives. Last night, April 4 I took an imitrex in attempt to rid the headache instead of prevent what I already have. It almost crippled me, made me feel very bad, then I passed out. Woke up today, headache still there. I am about to go crazy if I cant shake this. I still have diarrhea daily, neck and shoulders still very tight, and stomach still doesn't feel right.

Other potential factors are:
I completely cutout caffeine on March 26
I completely quit smoking marijuana March 13, which I have done recreationally for over 15 years daily. Please don't judge

What is going on with me? Is this truly migraines, and if so, why would one last for 10 days still going strong?

please help, I am at my wits end.

ANSWER: Chris,

Congrats on cutting those habits.

First, cutting out anything "cold turkey" such as drugs or caffeine can have a significant effect on your physiology such as severe headaches. I will not tell you to smoke them again, but what I can tell you is that when people get off their habits in steps, it is generally easier on the body.

Their are quite a few factors going on with your case. I will tell you that if the neurologist feels that cyst is small enough to not cause any problems, then he is very likely correct.

What I will tell you is that at some point in your life, their was some major trauma that has effected your nerve system in a devastating way. And your body is paying for it now. There are only a few hundred people in the world that can help you get rid of your problem. Let me know where you live in the country and I will do my best to find someone who can get rid of the cause of the problem.

Best of Luck,

Dr. T

QUESTION: Dr T,

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate your feedback.

I am in Memphis TN and I am using Semmes-Murphey Neuro clinic.

By trauma, are you referring to emotional or physical? I did crack a few ribs on March 1 this year, 2 weeks before my first incident, but have kind of ruled that out as a factor, maybe erroneously.

Any help you can provide or references you can point me to would be tremendously appreciated, I am not having a good time going through this. Last night, my head hurt so bad I almost had an attack feeling very claustrophobic and helpless to do anything about it.

Thanks so much for your time and feedback.

Answer   That trauma is significant because cracking ribs does take some force, correct? A Neuro clinic will be able to help give you details on the cyst, but will not be able to rid you of your problem unless you would like to cover up your symptom by taking pills for the rest of your life which I don't think you would like to do.

The closest doctor that can help you is in Missouri. Here is his contact info. I know Dr. Morris personally and I know he can help you.

Answer
Chris,
My thoughts are that this just might be what you are needing to get well.  This is the same work that we do in our office in St Louis, MO and I also know Dr Morris who is practicing in Dr Kessinger's Clinic, Dr Kessinger is one of my mentors.
This work is purely corrective care which gets to the root of the problem and is what you need in order to get well.
That is a great clinic and you will find out rather quickly that you are in the right place when you make the trip out there.
