i was told my nephew at cartilagenous area on c2 causing lucency.  not really sure what that means,    hope you can help

Sometimes there is a situation that occurs from birth or happens to a person over time, in which there is cartilage where there was once bone, or where bone should have been.  An X-Ray will show this seemingly absent vertebra or part of vertebra, to make it look like it is not there.
Are there any pictures that you can email to me about this?
Does he have any health problems that I should be aware of?
