Question
I have fusions at C5-C6 and C6 - C7.  I have bulging disks and bone spurs at C4-C5 and C7 - T1.  Since an activity last Saturday, I have had awful pain shooting up the middle of the back of my head.  This is new.  Is it anything to worry about or just a predictable addition to the other endless pain with which I live?

Answer
I don't know if anyone has explained why you have the bone spurring.  Since there is fusion, the joints above and below the fusion are the major movers now, and they are probably moving too much, and the bodies response to moving too much is to lay down more bone to support it.  This you can not fix, but you can stop the progression.  As these areas tighten up, the muscles go into spasm, and these muscles attach to the back of the head, causing "tension headaches".  I suggest some chiropractic treatments.  I am a member of a group of chiropractors that use a gentle technique to address these problems.  If you are interested, go to www.sorsi.com to locate a doctor near you.  I am located in St. Paul, Minnesota and would be happy to see you.  If you have any other questions or concerns please email me.
