Question
QUESTION: Hi
I had an arthriscope 12 months ago. I an now getting pain in the inside of the knee. It is really bad when I have been standing and try to walk. Sometimes it feels great. I would like to get back into running (I am 57). Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Chris

ANSWER: Hi Chris,

Hello,

Sorry about the knee pain.  I'm not sure exactly what your surgery was, but 12 months after arthroscopic knee surgery of any kind does seem long enough for you to expect to be healed.

Assuming the surgery was done properly and that the knee hasn't been re-injured somehow, I think the best option at the moment would be to make sure your knee joint itself has as much space and freedom as possible to function.

Hopefully, during your recovery, certain muscle groups have gotten a bit tight and are now torquing or compressing your knee joint.  If you release the inappropriate tension in those muscles the joint will then be free again to be lined up properly and function in a pain free manner.

I'm going to recommend you go to my totally free Do-It-Yourself-Joint-Pain-Relief website,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/
where I have free follow-along videos for every joint in the body.

If you go to the Knee Joint Pain Relief page,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/knee-joint-pain-relief.html
and follow along with the videos I think you can probably keep your knee pain from occurring in the future, and/or be able to relieve it if it does come back.

Lastly, it does sound a bit like your meniscus might be the issue.  They can take a long time to heal, but even if it is your meniscus, giving it as much space as possible in the middle of your knee joint is probably the best thing you can do for it.

I do hope this helps.

Best,

Gary Crowley

QUESTION: Hi Gary

Thanks for the answer, the website and suggested exercises are great and I am getting stuck into them. My pain occurs when I stand still for any prod of time. When I try to walk my knee writhe locks or gives great pain and I limp badly. If I persevere it Wii go away. Is it to do with the way I stand? Any other thoughts? Thanks again

Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

It could be the way you stand if your pelvis and lower back are inappropriately tight your L4 nerve might be getting aggrevated.
You might try my Pelvic Girdle Pain Relief Page,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/pelvic-girdle-pain-relief.html
or my main Lower Back Pain Relief Page
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/lower-back-pain-relief.html
and see if releasing more of the muscles above helps your situation.

I think because the pain subsides if you keep moving there is a good chance the above will work.

Best,

Gary Crowely
