Neck Cracking

Question
Hi,

I am a male age 32 and have been having regular neck cracking/Popping for a year or so.  I was seening a chiropractor after a major pop that limited my motion.  It helped at first, but the continued adjustments just kept it enflamed.  I was better for 6 months or so, but the cracking is pretty regular. It feels like a resistance to motion, I crack it and it is gone for 5 to 15 minutes.  I don't really trust chiropractors after my experience with them.  Should I go back to the chiro, see a physician, or simply deal with it?

Answer
Jeff,
If you don't trust chiropractors, I would not go back to them, because if they are going to manipulate your neck and you don't relax, it will do more harm then good.  You need to trust someone and allow the neck muscles to relax in order to have someone adjust or manipulate you.  There are some stretches and gentle movements you can learn from a physical therapist that can help you with this situation.  The PT can also help you learn what positions are causing you to have more tightness and causing your neck to be resistive to motion.  I hope this helps.
