Question
I slept on my neck wrong one night, and the muscles at the base of the head and neck were swollen. Then I noticed some numbness and tingling in my left hand (the pinky and ring finger).I also get muscle twitches, strange skin sensations.
I also have to work at the computer desk alot and noticed my neck muscles becoming more strained and painful because of my posture.I have been getting better lately by doing neck muscle exercises, cold packs.I noticed recently in my right arm when I'm sleeping I'll get woken up to some tingling, vibrations in the wrist and my shoulder seems to be sore.It seems like it only does this in bed and not throughout the day.
I was thinking it was a nerve impingement in the neck or shoulder area.Would greatly appreciate your help!!

Answer
I would have to agree with you as well. It could be a cervical disc bulge/herniation compressing a nerve root, or it could be a peripheral nerve entrapment (ulnar nerve) causing your symptoms. Keep paying attention to your postures and keep doing the stretches while you're at the computer. This should help if you have a disc problem. If the symptoms are worse with sleeping, it could simply be the pillow you're sleeping on or the position you are sleeping in. The ulnar nerve could be irritated if you sleep with you arm/wrist flexed under your head or pillow. An accurate diagnosis will lead to the proper treatment so get it evaluated and find out what the cause is first.
