Lupus: abnormal tryptophan metabolism
9/23 17:21:16

Question
Please tell me more about the abnormal tryptophan metabolism in lupus (SLE).  It's okay to be detailed.  Thank you.  :)

Answer
There is not much to tell. When you have lupus it affects the way your body processes tryptophan. Thryptophan is and amino acid that we get from food. It is a necessary nutrient that our bodies do not make. For a person with lupus it can trigger an autoimmune reaction that makes the symptoms worse. Most people do not have a problem with the amount they get in foods but supplementation can make the disease much worse. Most lupus diets recommend foods low in tryptophan.
