Hip Pain after Replacement Surgery

Question
I hope you can help me with some information.  I had a right hip replacement approx. two years ago.  I am in severe pain in the Hip area....the Surgeon said it is probably Bursitis, however, shots in a Replacement Hip are NOT recommended.  I am taking very strong pain medication and I still can't sleep due to the severe pain in that area.....in the side, in the back, mostly when I lay down.  sitting feels a little better.  Please help me if you can.  I don't know where to go next.

Answer
Dear Carolyn

At this point, either you need to have a second opinion, or you will need to go to pain management.    You might ask your orthopedist for an arthrogram.  That test will ensure there is no loosening of the hip. It's not pleasant, because they have to shoot a dye into the hip, but if you are in that much pain, you need to find the cause of it.

I wish I could be of more help.

Sharon
