Hip Replacement Post Surgery

Question
Sharon,
I'm due for a hip replacement in the next couple of months.  In 1991 I had big doses of prednisone for another health issue and ended up with necrosis in my right hip.  I'm 50 now.  Question:  I've always been athletic and am wondering what I will be able to do post surgery.  Such as, swimming, yoga, tennis, brisk hill hikes??  I am getting more and more limited as to what I can do right now and want to have something to look forward to in the aftermath of surgery...
Thanks for your help.

Kelli

Answer
Hi Kelli

After you HEAL from the surgery, you will be able to do any sports which do not carry a risk of falling and dislocating.  You will be able to bike, hike, do some positions in yoga, but not all because you will have to make sure you legs do not bend at the hip over a 90 degree angle.

You will be able to swim and probably play golf.  I don't know about tennis, you'd have to ask your doctor.

The main thing is not to do anything unless you get the "go ahead" from your doctor and take things slowly.

Best of luck to you and your new pain free life!!!
