Question
Hi Doctor,

I am from Bnagalore, India. 4 days back i had a fall in a watter channer and while falling the back of my right knee hit the edge of the channel.

2 days back i consulted a local hsopital . teh x-ray was fine and did nto show any fractures. The doctors suggested MRI and scan and belo are the findings:

1.Full thickness tear of ACL
2.Partial tear of PCL at its femoral attachment
3.Grade 2 tear of MCL
4. LCL normal,
5. Near full thick tear medial patellar reticulamresulting in lateral migration of patella
6.Partial tear of patellar tendon at its attachment of the tibial tuberosity
7. Articular Cartilage is normal
8.menici normal.

The doctors have suggested immediate surgery to restore damage.

I have slight swelleing on the left side of the right knee. I am walking and there is no pain . Slight pain observed while i try to bend knee to the full

I have taken second opinion and the other Doctor has put me on 5 days of physiotheraphy to gaint he full motion of the knee. Post this he will suggest future course.

Need your opinion on the case. Is surgery really necessary?

Thanks and regards
saurabh singh

Answer
Dear Saurabh,

This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & West Loop Podiatrist says.......
You may try physiotherapy and hope that the ACL tear is not complete. Usually that will produce instability. The tears may be able to heal with physiotherapy. See how it feels after a week or so---if the physiotherapy doctor agrees. You can always get the ACL surgery if needed
Good Luck!
