Question
I stubbed my toe about 2 weeks ago and have had swelling and pain on the top of my foot since then.  It also hurts at the bottom of my foot when walking.  Any idea what I did and how I can treat it?

Answer
You might have a small fracture that has not moved(undisplaced). The pain that you are feeling is the tendonitis of the extensor tendon(on top)and of the flexor tendon of the bottom. These tendons will show inflammation and swelling when they are connected to an injured bone that is moving(from your walking)
PRICE
Protect-wear a stiff shoe or stiff sandal while walking and try not to push with the toe and wrap it good so it doesn't move. Check out our website for a post-op/surgical shoe-at our online store- www.AnkleNFoot.com
Rest-walk less and take a break every few hours to elevate
Ice-on and of at the end of the day and when it hurts
Compress-Mild ace wrap the area-which will also protect
Elevate-if it throbs elevate sooner
Max dose of Alleve or Advil for 3 days, then decrease dosage over the next 3-4 days. Stop if it bothers you or if you have stomach problems.
Make sure you see a podiatrist to give you the best options if it continues to hurt.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
