Question
Hi,
The other day at track a friend of mine noticed bruising on my ankles. They are on each ankle, in the joint area, and about the size of a silver dollar. THey are both a light purpleish pink color and do not hurt when I touch them.
I have had no injury to that area and have never had complaints from running pains. So I don't think I bumped into something. My friend suggested that I may have slightly low levels of vitamin k, which is involved in blood clotting and bruising. Any ideas on this theory?

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenter.com says.......

Dear Meghan,

Your friend is partially correct. Vitamin K does help with clotting-but a deficiency would produce bruising anytime you bumped yourself.
Your condition is not related to Vitamin K
It probably is due to a rubbing spot that you do not feel, while running-maybe the tongue of the shoe when you move your foot upwards. Could also be some irritation on the skin on the ankle due to perspiration. Try some antifungal cream and check your running shoes carefully.

The podiatrists of AnkleNFootCenter.com are specialists in these kind of cases.
We are located in Chicago & Elmhurst.
Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
