Question
I had an MRI done on my cervical area.
The results were degenerative disc disease
with narrowing of spinal canal and 3 Narrowing
disc,4-5-6 and bone spurs.
Does that sound like it is something that would need surgery.
I have neck pain,shoulder pain,arm weakness
with tingling in my hands, also have cramps in legs.
I am not in servere pain but it is very uncomfortable.I have a hard time blow drying my hair and can't bend my arm enough much to get dressed.
Thankd
Debbie

Answer
.
Dear Debbie,

The decision whether you need surgery or not, is based on three things:
1.   Your exact complaints.
2.   Findings on physical examination
3.   Findings on Imaging studies such MRI.

Surgery is generally reserved for patients that either have pain which is refractory to non-surgical treatment, or patients that have significant neurological injury that might be reversible or contained by surgery.
I suggest you see a Spine surgeon for proper evaluation.

Sincerely,

Dr. N. Rahamimov
