Question
What do you use nutritionally to keep your body as healthy as possible in the way of diet or supplements.  I am not disabled but have a friend who is a quad.  She has some use of her arms.  She says that she feels better when she takes supplements.  She also takes a magnesium tablet every night which she says has helped greatly with her constipation and bowel problem, also her leg tremors are much less.  She takes 1000mg of Vit C daily also.  Have you had any experience with this.

Answer
Hi Rosie,
Thanks so much for your question.

Mostly, I feel a balanced diet is a very important factor in good health. Using supplements can also be beneficial.

I personally take 500 mg of vitamin C 4 times a day, a probiotic for intestinal health, Chromium Picolinate to keep blood sugar regular and magnesium.

One thing you need to remember, is that every spinal cord injury is unique and no two are the same. What will work for me may not work for your friend. The best advise I can give you is to research all supplements that she is using or considering using and then she needs to consult with her doctor before starting any supplement regimen.

I hope this has answered your question and please, feel free to ask me more anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
