Question
Hi,

I am chandan /m/35 and have been having a tingling pain in my right leg though not very frequently. I havent been able to localize the pain exactly to any particular region of my right leg. Moreover my observation is that every year i suffer from this pain for a few days usually during the early months. Cant be sure if this is due to weather changes. But this pain usually has me spending sleepness nights. Please help.

Answer
Hi Chandan-
My guess is that you're having some Sciatica, which is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve.  It comes out of your spinal column near your waist, wraps around your behind and travels along the outside of your thigh and down your leg.

This would mean something for those few days each year would be causing compression of this nerve, which is entirely possible (a bit of arthritis, etc).  I would recommend taking some anti-inflammatory pain killers (ie ibuprofen), and try putting hot or cold on your back- some people hot works better, some people like cold.  You can buy those gel-pack things that you can freeze or put in the microwave at Walgreens or most pharmacies.

If that doesn't help, or if the pain continues or gets worse, I'd see a doctor.  They can do an MRI (painless) that will show them exactly what's happening.
Good luck, and feel free to contact me again if I have left anything out or if you have additional questions!
