Question
MRI SCAN OF CERVICAL SPINE
Findings:There is quite significant degenerative change in the mid and lower cervical spine with marked osteophyte formtionn and central posterior disc bulging note a all levels from c3/c4 to c6/c7.At c3/c4 and c4/c5, this is resulting in quite significant compromise of the thecal sac to the point that he cord appears quite tight within the space available.Indeed there is a small amount of signal change seen on the T2 weighted image only in cord at level of c4/c5,however this is less significant at higher levels

hi- i take it you'd like a translation?

Basically your discs in the part of your back c3 and c7 (ie where neck meets your back down to the area between your shoulder blades) are screwed up. They mention 'degenerative change' which leads me to believe it is due to arthritis-like conditions or perhaps some other degenerative disease (if you are not at an age where arthritis should be a factor, perhaps).

Osteophytes are like bone spurs, also common with arthritis. The thecal sac is a thin membranous thing that surrounds the spinal cord and keeps the fluid around it. It appears to them that the bulging discs and bone spurs are causing pressure on the thecal sac, which can cause pressure on the cord.

In other words, you're likely to need to fix what you can in this area to avoid permanent damage. Steroid shots can often be used to lessen swelling in the discs, etc- there are options short of surgery (at least from what i can tell here).

hope that helps!
good luck-
leslie
