Question
I'm a c-4 (1988). I have managed my AD reasonably well until I turned 40. for the last 2 years it has gotten much worse. the simplest things set it off now. Dr's find nothing wrong with me to explain my AD. I've tired it all $1000 mattress, pain pills, yet theres no relief. is there a procedure to either block the sensation or to further cut the nerves?

Answer
Hi Vernon,  I had very similar circumstances and it got so severe that I was hospitalized for three weeks in October of 2002. I have been a C4-C5 quadriplegic since 7/20/73. And I was on condom drainage for most of my first 25 years as a quad. But eventually that began to cause me many more AD events until it became unbearable, so I then tried an indwelling catheter; but my bladder and body was rejecting that type of bladder care. So I decided to try a supra-pubic catheter. That helped quite a bit, but I think my body was so use to all the AD episodes that medication was also needed. My blood pressure was all over the place from 2000 until early 2003 so I have a blood pressure patch that I wear 7 days in a row at which point it is changed. I also have a bladder pill for relaxing my bladder and I am on baclofin to cut down on my muscle spasms. I don't know if this will help you, but it might. If you need more info, just write again and I'll be more specific.  Take care and I'll be keeping good thoughts for you. Sincerely, Ken
