Question
QUESTION: Hi, iam 16 yrs old. Around Jan. of last year I obtained an injury to my back.
I was sitting hunched over relaxed on a bed when out of nowhere my friend
jumped on me with full force and totally twisted and messed up my back. I
have been in the most chronic pain I could ever imagine and it has turned my
life upside down. I cant do anything anymore. Ive had X-rays, Neurologists,
doctors , everything.
And HAVENT been helped. Is there anything you could recommend that might
help me?

THANKS

ANSWER: hi kevin-

hmmm ok if you've had xrays then it shouldn't be the bones.. have you had an mri to look at the soft tissue? What is the pain like? (i mean do you have numbness or tingling pins and needles? or is it like when you twist your ankle?

let me know in a follow up and i'll see if i can think of anything

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The pain is a combination of numbness, throbbing, pins and needles and
aching. It never stops no matter what position or chair im in.
Im going in to a Neurosurgeon in a week or so, hopefull they'll do another
MRI. They did one on the wrong area last time.

Let me know ASAP if you have an idea or any suggestions.

THANKS

Answer
hey kevin-

yeah, sounds like nerve pain (as in bulging disc pressing on the nerve). The mri, if done correctly, should show whats happening in there.

the bad news is nerve pain is real hard to get rid of. basically yuo want to do stuff to reduce the inflammation, right? you can try taking 3 advil every 4 hrs (unless it hurts your stomach or you have problems with ibuprofen). You can also try putting cold or alternating heat/cold on that part of your back (20 minutes per temperature)

i'm real sorry there's no easy fix for this- i know whaat a drag it is to live with pain all the time. Maybe that'll help some and your doc can help more after seeing the new MRI

good luck- i'm out here if there's anything i can do to help
leslie
