Question
I broke my lowerarm/wrist last June and still have problems with movement in my fingers.  I am receiving advice from a pain consultant who has suggested the above treatment but I was too busy
absorbing the thought of an injection in my throat to listen properly could you give me some info on what the long term outcome should be and how often I may need to have treatment.  I did understand that the nerves are sending the wrong messages to the brain.
I have had acupuncture for pain relief but it was only of use short term.
If you can come up with alternatives I will be interested.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Susan and thanks for writing,

Obviously your specialist is the person who can give you the best medical advise as s/he knows your in-depth history and specific symptoms. I can tell you that Nerve Blocks are usually very effective for moderate-severe pain and I can not suggest any alternative treatment that will be more effective than a nerve block. It's really up to you and how much the pain interferes with your life; if you can tolerate it with analgesics and accupuncture then you could delay the nerve block for now, but if it's intolerable and you want a sure-fire cure then you'll want to go for the nerve block.

Sorry I can't be more help, as I said, there is no pain therapy MORE effective than a block.

All the best,

Margot
