My wrist

Question
My left wrist has been hurting and whenever I move it, it makes a cracking sound (which, I have to admit, was cool at first but has kinda got me concerned).  I should probably also add that I've been playing piano for 13 years now and I'm a computer geek so I sit here, typing a whole bunch.
I was wondering what the condition was/ could be... so far, I've got it in a wrist brace but I was wondering if medical attention is needed or if it's just growing pains (I'm going to be 18 soon so maybe I'm still growing?)

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Meg and thanks for writing,

There are several problems the wrists often develop associated with chronic typing actions, but to know what is really going on you'll have to be examined by a qualified physician. It may be simple strain which just needs a supportive brace and maybe some anti-inflammatory medications, but it could also be a more serious problem involving the nerves which may require professional treatment and or surgery to avoid further complications in the future.

I don't mean to alarm you, but it's better to be safe than sorry - you can't be a very good computer geek without the use of your wrists right?!

Just go see a doctor and have him examine your wrist and take and X-ray to see what's going on.

Wishing you all the best,

Margot
