Achey Arm - Particularly At Night

Question
Hi there,
Quite a while ago I had pain in my left arm - mainly at night time. Therefore I went to see my Doctor as it kept me up at night, and I was loosing a lot of sleep. She said there was nothing she could give me and to take ibuprofen or paracetamol, I hate dosing myself up on Paracetamol, and decided not to bother.
However, two months ago I had an Implanon rod fitted in my right arm (although I dont think its connected, I thought Id mention it anyway), and for the past two weeks Ive had bad pain and aches in my arm, particularly when I sleep. Ive been waking up at the early hours of the morning, tossing and turning (waking my boyfriend up, who luckily enough doesnt mind being disturbed!), my boyfriend has been telling me to go to the Doctors - but whats the point if she's going to say the same thing? I was hoping it would pass, but Im getting sick of being disturbed in my sleep! I can get my arm comfortable after a while, but it hurts in one spot when I move it. I have been taking ibuprofen/paracetamol - especially at night, but it has no effect. Ive also been using a hot water bottle to ease the pain, but it also has little effect. My arm is also very painful in the daytime. Should I go back to the doctors? And what do you suspect it is? Im very worried.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Samantha and thanks for writing,

You should try and be seen by a different doctor, perhaps a Neurologist or walk-in clinic if possible  as you only have the pain at night I wonder if you have pressure on a nerve?

Can you not be examined by the surgeon who did your recent surgery - you should be entitled to a follow-up visit shouldn't you?

Wishing you all the best,
Margot
