lower stomach pain

Question
Occasionally, I will be woken up at night,(it is always after I have gone to bed)with terrible lower stomach pains that radiate to my lower back and, as graphic as this may sound, the pain is shooting to/from my anus.  I have always had colon problems, I get constipated easily so I have to be very careful not to eat too much at a time or gorge myself at a meal.  That is not healthy anyway I know but if I do, I PAY.  I am a young woman in mid 30's, I am fairly physically active,I am not over weight and, other than these occasional episodes of feeling like I am dying, I am in good health.  I would like to know if you have any thoughts of what it could be.  Diaticalytis? Kidney or gallblader stones?  Gastritous?

Answer
Hi Jennifer and thanks for writing,

It's impossible for me to guess over the internet, but your symptoms do make me wonder about Gallbladder, Gastric Reflux, Kidney Stones, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

You really need to go be assessed by a qualified physician and get to the bottom of it (excuse the pun).

I hope this helps, all my best,

Margot
