Question
MY HUSBAND JUST HAD AN MRI AND THERE ARE A LOT OF DETAILS, HE IS SEEING A DOCTOR IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, HOWEVER, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THE FOLLOWING MEANS.  THIS IS UNDERLINED ON THE RESULTS HE HAS RECEIVED.
"LARGE RIGHT PARACENTRAL DISC EXTRUSION MEASURING 13 MM IN THE CEPHALOCAUDAD DIMENSION, LD-S1 LEVEL, RESULTING IN A SEVERE DEGREE OF ACQUIRED CENTRAL SPINAL STENOSIS AND COMPRESSION OF THE S1 NERVE ROOTS BILATERALLY, RIGHT GREATER THAN LEFT.

Answer
Dear Sylvia,

The doctor or lab radiology department who took the MRI can give you a better explanation than I can as it is their specialty.  I suggest you bring your inquiry and concern to them.

However, I can tell you a general lament explanation of the information provided.  There are injuries to his lower back that is causing the spinal chord and the nerve root (S1) that comes out of the spinal chord to be compressed or injured.  Both side are affected but the worse is on the right.  In my opinion, this sounds quite serious.  Again, I recommend for you to inquire with the doctor who is treating him for detail explanation.

I hope that help.

Good luck and best wishes for your husband recovery.
