wrist/hand/finger pain

Question
For a few months now, once in a while I get pain in my wrist that spreads into my middle fingers. The pain in the wrist is like a tingly, stiffness...like when you jump from something and get heel shock.  It seems to come up over the back of my hand (not through the palm) and affects the 2 middle fingers only.  I don't necessarily have to be doing anything for the pain to come on and I don't always get it when I am doing something.  Someone told me that Carpal Tunnel is through the palm, so it doesn't seem to be the problem.  I've had no recent falls or known injury and it is on my dominant side.

Answer
Hi Jenn,

It sounds like pressure on a nerve. You could try some gentle stretching and range of motion exercises to stretch the wrist and improve circulation.  Also try a taking an Anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen) if it aches.

If the shocky sensation does not resolve then you really need to see a doctor for a neurological exam.

I hope this helps, all my best,

Margot
