Question
First off, God Bless you. I will try and be brief.I am slated to have both
catarcts removed and I am a diabetic. My doctor says even with the IOC lens I
may not have improved sight( I am 20/200 and 20/600) How does one "see"if
the eyes are corrected for DISTANCE only? I am scared and feel that my Dr.
did not answer all my questions. He is also insisting that I get a ReStore Toric
lens which is a further $1500 per eye.. I am very scared. Thankyou for
listening and any advice would be so appreciated.

Answer
Dear Uma,

God bless you, too.

I had been fixed for distance in both eyes. After some trouble I had with the IOL in my right eye, I had it taken out and now that eye has nothing at all in it. I wear glasses, instead of using an IOL.

I did spend a year with distance IOL's and it did take some getting used to. I has always had 20/200 in both eyes, but with the IOL's it made it more like 20/150. This was great. What took the getting used to was the fact that when I'd try and read or get too close to things, they'd get blurry. I then had to get a pair of reading glasses.

It took me about two months to really get used to using the reading glasses. Once I did, it was like second nature to grab them when I needed to read up close.

I do not think it's anything that you need to be worried about. Be aware that it will take a little time to get accustomed to them, but once it does you'll be fine.

I am not familiar with this ReStore Toric, I'm sorry. So I cannot give you advice on that.

Good luck!
Jeannine
