Question
I fell off my horse 2 days ago and the way i landed i hurt my knee and there was a loud crack which came from my hip. 2 days later my hip seems fine and now i am left with numbness in whole of leg and a slight tingling.  my left knee does not seem as sore now either.  do you think this is serious or do i just need a few days rest?  any help would be grateful.

Answer
Dear Paula,

A continual loss of sensation over the entire leg needs to be checked out.  This could be the result of nerve root compression in the low back or peripheral nerve injury in the leg...this should be examined.

Always better safe than sorry in these cases...a functional and neurological examination of the leg and low back should be able to either pinpoint the problem or put your fears to rest.

I would suggest that you either pick an orthopedist or a chiropractic physician to perform this exam...they are more highly trained in musculoskeletal injuries and should be able to make a diagnosis.  Good luck!!

Respectfully,
