Question
I had an MRI FOR THE FIRST TIME OF PAIN FOR 3 YEARS NOW, I was told 3 years ago that I had a Cyst in my neck, today I was told that not only do I have a cyst I also a Bulging Disc and Arthritis I am 30 years old and don't normally have an physical problems and I don't know what decision to make - surgery? This is what my physician is suggesting? Please help!

Answer
Crissy,

The cyst may require surgery, but should be relatively minor surgery.

Discs bulge when put under excess pressure -- such as when tight neck muscles pull the vertebrae too close together.  The arthritis may have the same cause.  Surgery won't help, as it does nothing to relax muscular tensions; you need to retrain your ability to feel and control those muscles, so their excess tension relaxes.  Then, the bulge will correct itself.

As neck muscles relax, the muscular pain also diminishes.

See somatics.com/page4.htm for the whiplash article (which refers to neck tension).
