Mri results and Would this be causing all my pain and Numbness?

Question
My X-ray results read:
There is straightening of the normal cervical curve. No bony degenerative change is seen. There is no evidence of disc space narrowing. The vertebrae are normally aligned. There is no bony encroachment on the neural foramina.
There is a small left sided cervical rib demonstrated. Bone density is within normal limits.
The MRI Results are:
There is slight dehydration of the upper cervical discs. There is associated annular bulging and a right paracentral protrusion of the C5/6 disc which indents the thecal sac and anterior aspect of the cord. The cord maintains normal signal intensity and no focal abnormality or evidence of myelomalacia. There is no evidence of foraminal compromise at the C5/6 level or elsewhere.
How bad is this and would it be the cause of my pain in arms wrists and also the numbness? And also would would the treatment involve
I also suffer with severe headaches aswell.

Answer
Hello, Kacey,

The curve of the neck changes according to the tension of neck muscles.

Indications are that your neck muscles are tight.

Tight neck muscles also contribute to headaches.  See the article on headaches at somatics.com/page4.htm.  They also cause discs to bulge.  See the article on whiplash injuries, same location.

Since there is no evidence of foraminal compromise, the problem is probably at the brachial plexus, which passes between the scalene muscles of the neck.  When tight, they compress the nerves, causing symptoms.

I would recommend you see a clinical somatic educator, who can help you free the involved muscles.  practitioner list:  hannasomatics.com/practitioners
