Question
Two years ago I fell down the steps, I was holding my 2 year old in my arms. I protected him by wrapping my arms around him. I slipped on a toy and went down hard on my back and rt shoulder. I bounced down the 15 steps on my back. Severe neck/shoulder/back pain since. Muscle spasms in chest wall/legs/abd.Headaches,balance problems and foggy brain. Some weakness in rt arm. I also get stuck sometimes when I bend over(pain so bad I cannot stand up) Cervical mri was clean. Dr. blew off the bulging thoracic disc on mri. Sent me home w/o treatment. Now other dr says I have fibro.Could this be the back problem or auto-immune disorder or is all this from fibro. My ana and all blood work looks great.

Answer
Although I'm not a physician and cannot diagnose the problem, I can tell you that it sounds like there is a nerve pinched in your back, maybe more than one.

From your symptoms, it's hard to tell about the fibromyalgia diagnosis.  Fibro is an autoimmune condition and is measured by having a certain number of reactions at a variety of points on your body.  Unfortunately, sometimes the fibro diagnosis is used when the underlying cause for the pain is unknown.

I would recommend visiting an osteopath or chiropractor to see if the fall moved any of your vertebra out of their normal position specifically in your thoracic spine.  Having a vertebra or a rib out of alignment can cause the nerve pinching. The accompanying muscle tenderness and spasms could be because the muscles tighten around the area to try to prevent further damage and/or pain.

Thanks for your question, Vickie.  I hope that my answer was helpful.
