Question
i have just been using my trampoline when i caught a sudden pain in my lower back beneth my bottom rib. i sometimes struggle on breathing too. can you tell me what this is and wether i should go to a doctor or not?

Answer
Dear Paul,

Unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly what the problem is without a functional and orthopedic examination of the area of complaint.  This is most likely a strain/sprain type of injury, but it should be followed up on.

I can tell you this:  you should see a chiropractor for this evaluation and not a medical doctor.  the medical doctor will likely not perform an orthopedic evaluation unless they are an orthopedist, and they are not likely to give you any treatment other than pain medication and muscle relaxers.  The chiropractor on the other hand will actively treat the injury if needed with a combination of spinal adjustments, stretching, exercises, myofascial release, and functional rehab.  just make sure that you go to a chiropractor who actually does rehab in the office for an evaluation.

Respectfully,
Dr. J. Shawn Leatherman
