Question
I can not afford the medication that is used for arthritis in dogs.  Is there any alternative, either herbal or otherwise?   Can you give ibuprofen to dogs?   Thank you.

Answer
JW,

There is a supplement called Cetyl Myristoleate that many people are using effectively with dogs. There is a link on our web site that has more information about it and other alternative treatments.

I would not recommend treating arthritis in humans with ibuprofen. It is safe for occasional use but 15 thousand people each year die from over the counter anti-inflammatories like advile and alieve.

Remember that dosing is different with dogs than humans. Really it is the same but our size is different. Most dosing is based on 150 pounds. You can divide the weight of the pet into 150 to get the dosage.
