Question
2 years ago I was diagnosed with Arthritis in my left hip. I am 43 male and in good health. The specialist said he thought I would need a hip replacement within 10 years. My hip does not really give me any discomfort, are there any exercises or diet I could use to slow the deterioration ?

Answer
Dear Keith,   I do not know the type of arthritis you have because you didn't say, but if it is Osteoarthritis like mine, there are really no certain foods to eat that will help.....  The thing is, NOT to gain weight and stay at the weight that is recommended for your hight and age (per the doctor)....  Excess weight will only make your osteoarthritis worse....  As for exercise, talk to your doctor and have him send you to a wellness or physical therapy so they can tell you the proper exercises you should be doing for your hip, the length of time for each exercise and how often....  A good physical therapist can get you on the right track and then you can take it from there....

thank you,   karen
