Question
QUESTION: Dear Amelia,

I have had Raynauds's phenomenon symptoms in my feet for two years. My GP has diagnosed this condition. I also have sunburn sensation on my back which makes it uncomfortable to sit and lean back. I am worried about the cause of the sunburn sensation. Can you advise if you think the Raynaud's and sunburn sensation are related?

Very grateful for any help you can give.

Sarah

ANSWER: I don't know if they are related but I haven't experienced this myself.  Check with your doctor - there may be many reasons why you have this burning feeling.

QUESTION: Should he have run a blood test to check if the Raynaud's is primary or secondary?

Answer
I'm not a doctor and I don't know what sort of payment option you have, but as a patient with insurance, I'd probably ask for an ANA test knowing the things I know now. Keep in mind, though, that ANAs only support a diagnosis of something like scleroderma.  The diagnosis is actually made from your medical history, your symptoms, and what the doctor observes during your visit.  I hope you can find an answer soon and it's something very treatable.
