Question
I was just wondering about the side affects of prednisone particularly The water retention and weight gain. My doctor has sugessted taking 5mg a day until i am done nursing my daughter. He told me to research the affects on the internet if i wanted more details. I just wondered if 5mg was a dose high enough to make me experiance the weight gain and water retention and if so how much?
It is ok if you cant answer my question I apreciate you trying. just not finding much searching the net.  Thankyou in advance. Tammy

Answer
Tammy,

You should not see any weight gain at 5 mg. That is not to say it won't happen since everyone responds to drugs differently but this is a very low dose and most people do not see weight gain or water retention at this level.

Also this level is considered safe for nursing. Prednisone penetrates into breast milk poorly.

I wish you good health and much happiness with the new baby.
