Question
Can I expect an NMRI of my right hip, groin, pelvic and upper thigh area to provide information a doctor will need to explain the source of frequent, sharp stabbing pains in my groin. Hip x-rays, according to my physician, do not suggest there is hip joint involvment.

Answer
Dear Herm
An MRI will probably confirm if there is any bone problem brewing.  If your hip has arthritis it will show that clearly on the MRI and I am glad that your doctor is going to let you take one.

X-rays will not confirm hip damage. A very good doctor can see subtle changes in an X ray if a joint is beginning to flatten, but the MRI will definitely confirm any arthritis or joint damage.

Good luck to you!
Sharon
