Question
Dear Sir,
At 75,for the first time,I had pain on my left leg, especially below and above knee.
I can walk, but when I step-down,I have more pain and while stepping-up mild pain.I referred to Physician and he diagnosed that I have no problem with knee-joint and it is just muscular pain.He prescribed PMSON ER containing Acetaminophen extended release tablet twice a day and Folimax-Plus containing  Folic acid,Pyridoxine hydrochloride-10mg and Methylcobalamine-750mg.once/day.
Since I started these drugs,I do have some relief. He further advised to use hot water bag at night and do some exercise so as to strengthen the muscles.I also apply Bengay cream which does relieve pain.
Folimax-plus is to be continued for a month and PMSON ER till pain subsides.By now I am taking these drugs since last about 8days.
Kindly advised whether this treatment will be ok or else I may need to go for any further investigation by Orthopedic consultant.
My physician told that such pain may take little more time in old age and I need not worry.
After almost more than a month,I still have some pain on discontinuing PMSON-ER.Folimax is still continued.
Would you advise that I still need to continue drug & exercise.
I shall be obliged if you kindly comment.God bless you, sir!
Warm regards,
agdesai.

Answer
Dear Anil,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
Yo probably have a little arthritis. There are different kinds, and it sounds like that you may have the kind that is normal for aging. The best for you is exercise, do not be overweight & a good diet. It is important that you have fun & enjoy your life. All of the previous advice is better than drugs & surgery for normal problems of aging. As long as these pains improve with movement-then it sounds like what your doctor & I said.
If the pain does not go away, or does not become minimal & increases-then go again to the doctor
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
