Question
My grandmother, age 86, fell down and broke her right hip.  The orthopedic surgeon who attented her in ER says she need surgery.  5 days have pass and now he doesn't want to operate her because she has a hemoglobin of 10.  How can I request to change her to another hospital and to seek another evaluation?
I don't know if it is because of the pain, but now her mind is blowing off, she sees alucinations and wants to tear her intravenous needle.  I'm afraid she looses her mind waiting for the surgery.

Answer
Dear Waici

If I were you, I'd see if the hospital has any social services  and ask them how to proceed.  Unfortunately, I don't know much about your situation.  It might be that social services will be able to allow you to have another doctor look at her.

I do know that if hemoglobin is low, they cannot operate.  It may be that she is anemic and needs iron.  Try social services.
