noise after hip replacement
9/21 14:21:37

Question
I had a hip replacement 2004 and was 56.  I have always had noise with this
replacement.  It seems to be getting worse.  It happens off and on,
sometimes going for days with no noise.  Other times when I walk it pops,
clunks and squeaks.   My doctor says to do worry about it since I am not in
pain.  I have a ceramic on ceramic replacement and have read about all the
law suits.  I am concerned about the noise and possible problems later on.
Should I see another doctor for another opinion?

Answer
Dear Shirley

First of all, when you hear the noise, do you feel anything moving in the hip?  If you do, it may be that a muscle or tendon is slipping over the replacement and if that it the case, it will get better and eventually go away.

If the above is not what you are experiencing, you can google hip replacement recalls on the internet and find out which ones were recalled.  But you also need to know which replacements were used on your hips.  This information is in your record, but it may be difficult to get from your doctor.

Additionally, I would see another doctor to get his ideas of what is going on.  When you get a second opinion, go to a teaching hospital in your area since teaching hospitals have the most current information in most cases.

Hope this helps you.
