Question
I SENT OUT A QUESTION AND AFTER I READ IT I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU COULD NOT GIVE ME A PROPER ANSWER. I HAD FALLEN ON MARCH 27TH OF THIS YEAR AND BROKE THE FEMUR UP CLOSE TO THE HIP. I UNDERWENT SURGERY AND HAD AROD INSERTED INTO THE BONE. MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG WILL I HAVE MUSCLE PAIN IN THE THIGH AND GROIN AREA? IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN BE DOING TO ALLEVIATE THE PAIN?

Answer
Hi Janet

Now I get a better idea of what you need to know.

I think after five months out of surgery, it's a good idea to go back to the doctor and see if you can get extra physical therapy, see if the legs are the same length, and see if there is anything going on that is leading to your pain issues.

If your doctor told you, prior to the surgery, that you would be pain free after recovery, and you obviously are not, you need to investigate anything that may be causing you not to heal.

If the pain occurs after a day of a lot of activity, I would suggest using heat to relax the muscle.  You might also ask your doctor for pain medication so you can use that on days where you are in a lot of pain.

If the pain is constant, you should look into seeing another doctor who works with a teaching hospital to so you can see what your options are.
