Question
Ive already had t8-t9 fusion so I know a little. I littererly woke up one morning and the litte humps on your pelvis were hurting, a day later that changed to what felt like there were little cracks all over my pelvis it felt like my legs were going to fall of pain ran down both the backs of my legs and I have never hurt this bad in my life. My doctor ordered PT they had me lay on my stomach and see how far I could lift my legs then they said there was nothing they could do gave me a cane and wished me luck. My doctor the ordered a MRI but they couldnt give me one (I have shrapnel and bullet fragments in me not my back combat vet) so they did a CT scan which said I have very little disk left in my lower back the vertebrae  are jagged and I have bone spurs . I dont want to ride the pain pill roller coaster again I hate them and after my last surgery I really dont want to go under the knife but the pain gets worse every minute and I wont take any kind of opiate pain meds what can I do Im literally thinking of putting my sidearm in my mouth thats how bad it hurts. Please give me some advice if you can thank you for your time. Oh my age is 37. LKR

Answer
Dear Kevin,

I understand.

Here it is, in brief:

Injuries trigger muscular contractions; muscular contractions pull on bone and cause spurs to grow; they also cause disc compression, nerve impingements, and pain from the muscle fatigue, itself.

So, the result that surgery can't accomplish is to free the muscular contractions; that's the job of clinical somatic education:  free the contracted muscles.

May I direct you to my article on back pain at somatics.com/back_pain.htm; do what it suggests and then either get to a practitioner (see the Practitioners link, top of that page), or get one of the self-help programs (somatics.com/page7.htm).

kind regard,
Lawrence Gold
