Answer
Hi Deepthi,
Thanks so much for your question.

I can't say for sure but the pain and burning he feels in his legs may be "phantom pain".

The "phantom pain" happens because the person's mind still remembers experiencing feelings where true sensation is absent.

"Phantom pains" are very common among people with spinal cord injuries and people whom have had an amputation.

Muscle Spasms are also very common in spinal cord injuries because the messages that are being transmitted from the body to the brain are interrupted at the point of the injury and therefore, the muscles don't know what to do, so they begin to contract and relax. These muscle spasms can be severe and last from a few seconds to several hours or more.

As for his urinary tract problems, if he is having problems inserting the catheter through the penis, I would suggest he talk to his doctor. There is a catheter called a "suprapubic" which an incision is made just above the pubic hair line and the catheter is inserted into the bladder. Talk to your doctor about this catheter.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Thanks Again,
John McKinzie
